FAQ: Why do ladies wear their heads covered during service?
Why do ladies wear their heads covered during service?
The simple answer is because the Bible said so. More specifically speaking, the Apostle Paul writes in his first letter to the Corinthians…
“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Messiah. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Messiah; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Messiah is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman that prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.”
I Corinthians 11:1-7
So ladies in respect and honor to the principle of headship in the body of Y’shua have their heads covered in the service. Paul tells us that a woman that prays or prophesies in the assembly should have her head covered. The hair of a woman is a glory to her, as it says in the 15th verse, so she is bringing glory to herself by having it uncovered in the assembly. So, in order to express the order that Paul is explaining in the church, men don’t cover their heads and women do cover theirs.
